Masks

A boy named Jorge da Costa Alves (who was 18 at that time) was flying a kite at the Morro do Vintém (Vintém Hill), in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil when he found two dead men. Immediately, he made his way back home and called the police. Soon the spot was full of police officers, firefighters and journalists.

The bodies were strewn next to each other, slightly covered by the grass. They were wearing suits, and over the suits, impermeable coats. There was no sign of violence to the bodies or the surrounding area. Next to the bodies, the police found an empty bottle of water and a packet containing two towels. However, what has really caught people's attention were the lead masks worn by them. These were typical masks used for protection from heat or radiation, and the case is named after them. To make things more complicated, the policemen found a small notebook with signs and numbers, and also a letter in which was written: "16:30 estar no local determinado. 18:30 ingerir cápsulas, após efeito proteger metais aguardar sinal máscara" (16:30 be at the agreed place. 18:30 swallow capsules, after effect protect metals wait for the mask sign).

The autopsy found no trace of toxic substances, nor any kind of injury. To date, the case remains open.

X04

Welcome to Neurocam X04

You may know me as Robert Henley, Charles Hastings, Maxwell Knight, Neville Harris, Bridget Fischer, Roger Ascott or Damian Long.
My real name is Rob Hely and I began Project Neurocam in 1999.

Whatever you've heard about Neurocam is irrelevant.
Whatever you've experienced is unimportant.
I'm taking what I've learned from the project and bringing it to the next level.
The next level is all about commitment; how far you're willing to go in order to truly experience something new and interesting.

The way it works is simple. You give me a detailed description of everything relevant that makes up your day-to-day life experience.
I will then set you tasks to perform. These tasks will be difficult and challenging; perhaps the most challenging things you've ever done in your life.
But they will show you things, important, life-changing things. They will make your life more interesting.

Right now you're probably thinking this is completely crazy. But you know that there's only one way to find out for sure.

"Some of the most rewarding experiences we have come about through
random circumstances of which we have no real understanding.
It is sometimes important to commit to something we know very little about
if the act of commitment in itself becomes part of an experience."

Rob Hely
Project Director 1999 - present

Interesting

Looks like NCI's homepage is active again. Some quotes for posterity:

----------------------------
The more persistence an X04 protocol tries to have; the longer it is set up to last; the greater number (and broader variety) of people it tries to attract; and in general the more immersive it sets out to be, then the more breadth and depth of human experience it needs to support to be successful for more than say, 12-24 months. If you try to create a deeply immersive, broadly appealing, long-lasting experience that does not adequately provide for human tendencies such as violence, acquisition, justice, family, community, exploration, etc (and I would contend we are nowhere close to doing this), you will see two results: first, individuals in the population will begin to display a wide range of fairly predictable socially pathological behaviors (including general malaise, complaining, excessive bullying, harassment, territoriality, inappropriate aggression, and open rebellion against those who run the protocol); and second, people will eventually vote with their feet, but only after having passionately cast a pox on both your houses. In essence, if you set people up for an experience they deeply crave (and mostly cannot find in real life) and then don't deliver, they will become like spurned lovers--some become sullen and aggressive or neurotic, and eventually almost all leave.
------------------

Like the descent into an LSD trip, where the filters of ordinary perception are removed and every dew-drop, every phrase, floods the mind with its fulsome infinity, the journey into the heart of an anomaly can teach one the ultimate precariousness of perception. Nothing is what it seems to be - or rather, beyond a few shared basics, everything can be seen as something else.
-----------------

The first one sounds like a post-mortem (paiwdjvw x ldjasc'i qt hjgegxhts xu iwt ujcrixdc du crx lph egxbpgxan id hijsn iwtht qtwpkxdgpa itcstcrxth xc iwt uxghi eaprt). The second almost sounds like they are thinking about starting up operations again. Interesting.

Is there anybody out there?

The bones have told Chengra.

Poor Ron di Blasi, he doesn't even get a page of his own.

She packed my bags last night.

Pre-flight. Zero hour nine a.m. And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then.

It may be of interest to someone

"He recovered the knowledge of all the times before the Flood.
He journeyed beyond the distant, he journeyed beyond exhaustion,
And then carved his story on stone."

Yet his true story is ours for the telling.
